Number of trips/days covered Daily policies are valid for up to 31 continuous days.  Annual policies are valid for up to 60 continuous days for any one hire.

What is covered? Covers you for the total amount of excess for which you are liable if the car is damaged or stolen, plus damage to the roof and undercarriage of the car, and windows and tyres.
Amount of cover Up to £2,000 per incident, and up to £3,000 for a series of incidents during the policy period.
Multiple drivers covered? Yes, for an additional fee.  Covers the policy holder and one additional ‘close relative’ named driver who must live in the same residence as you.

Additional items included Lock Out Cover:
Up to a maximum of £100 for costs incurred if you’re unintentionally locked out of the car, as long as you use an approved locksmith.

Road rage:
Up to £1,000 if you suffer a physical assault by another person, resulting in injury, as a direct result of an accident.

Car-jacking:
Up to £1,000 if you suffer a physical assault by another person, resulting in injury, as a result of your car being stolen or attempted to be stolen.

Hotel expenses:
Up to £150 (in total) for necessary overnight accommodation for you and your travelling companions if you can’t use the car due to theft or following an accident.

Travel expenses:
Up to £50 (in total) for you and your travelling companions to travel home if you can’t use the car due to theft or following an accident.

Restitution:
£25 per day if the car rental agreement is cancelled or cut short on medical advice.  You must be confined to hospital/a hotel/private accommodation on the relevant day(s).  Maximum amount payable per claim is £300.

Drop off:
Up to £300 for drop off charges you incur by being in hospital when you were meant to drop off the car.

Additional driver, as long as the driver is a close relative, as defined in the policy.

Personal belongings:
Up to £150 per claim for any loss or damage to personal belongings (up to a maximum of £500 per policy period).  Numerous exclusions, including tickets, documents, telephones,  and games consoles.  This benefit is not payable if the car was left unlocked or where the items were not concealed in the glove box or boot, or where a travel policy is in place which already covers them.

Car Rental Key Cover:
This insurance also covers you for costs up to a maximum of £500 (or equivalent in local currency), per claim, subject to a maximum of £1,000 in any one year, for replacing a lost or stolen rental car key, including replacement locks and locksmith charges.

Personal accident:
£10,000 if the driver is injured while travelling in the car and within 90 days of the accident the injury causes death, loss of a limb or loss of sight in one or both eyes.

Vehicle rental cancellation insurance:
Up to £500 towards any cancellation charges incurred if you cancel the rental.

Small print/exclusions to beware of You are not covered for:

  • The rental of any vehicles where the value of the vehicle exceeds £65,000, or of vehicles which are more than 20 years old or which are ‘antique, expensive or exotic’.
  • The rental of certain vehicles, namely: motor homes, camper vans, trailers or caravans, trucks, commercial vehicles, motorcycles, mopeds, motorbikes, off-road vehicles, recreational vehicles and passenger vans and vehicles with more than 9 seats.
  • Losses occurring from driving whilst not on a public highway, or while taking part in racing competitions, rallying or speed testing.
  • Loss or damage to the rental car as a result of its fuel tank being filled with the incorrect fuel type.

Procedure for claiming Written notice of accidents, proceedings or any other events that may give rise to a claim must be given to the claims office in writing within 31 days.

You must submit documentation to support your claim, by email, fax or post:
1. Copy of your policy certificate.
2. Original copy of your car rental agreement.
3. A copy of your charge receipt (if separate from the rental agreement)
4. If the incident by law requires the attendance of the police, you will need to send a copy of the police report.
5. Your copy of the rental company’s accident damage report.
6. Invoices / receipts / other documents confirming the amount you have paid in respect of accident / damage / loss etc. for which the car hire company holds you responsible.
7. Copy of your credit card statement showing payment of the damages claimed.
8. Copy of the driving licence of the person driving the rented vehicle involved in the accident (the driver).
