Additional items included Baggage Cover:

Cover for theft of, or damage to, baggage and/or personal belongings provided the items in question were in either a locked boot or glove box only. Cover is for £300 in total for any one claim and, within that, £150 for any single item.

If you can’t provide an original receipt, proof of purchase or insurance valuation (obtained prior to the loss) for the lost item then the maximum payment for that item is £75, and a total maximum £200 for all such items.

(Note that cover does not extend to cash or valuables. Note also that claims must be reported to an appropriate police authority within 24 hours of discovery and an official police report obtained, and evidence of forced entry must be confirmed by the hire car company and/or police. Note also that the insurance will not pay out if your loss is recoverable under any other insurance, so if you already have separate travel insurance, this baggage cover inclusion is not a great benefit in your car hire excess policy).

Car Rental Key Cover:

This insurance also covers you for costs up to a maximum of £500 (or equivalent in local currency), per claim, subject to a maximum of £2,000 in any one year, for replacing a lost or stolen rental car key, including replacement locks and locksmith charges.

Small print/exclusions to beware of You are not covered for:

  • Car interior, mechanical breakdown or incorrect fuel.
  • The rental of a vehicle whose value exceeds £50,000, or for vehicles which are more than 10 years old.
  • The rental of certain vehicles, namely: motor homes, camper vans, trailers or caravans, trucks, commercial vehicles, motorcycles, mopeds, motorbikes, off-road vehicles, recreational vehicles and passenger vans and vehicles with more than 9 seats.
